Understand & Shift the Patterns Behind the way You Think, Feel, & Relate
“Why do I keep doing this?” “Why do I keep ending up in the same cycles?” “Why can’t I seem to respond differently even when I know better?” 😭
Does that sound like you?
You may notice patterns of anxiety, overthinking, emotional overwhelm, people-pleasing, or difficulty setting AND standing strong on your boundaries. Maybe you tend to overanalyze every interaction, worry about what someone meant by their text or tone, or care way too much about whether or not someone is upset with you.
And when you’re overwhelmed, perhaps you blow up, shut down, pull away, or say things you probably shouldn’t say, and then look off into the distance thinking “did I do that?” - urkel voice
Well guess what? That just means your nervous system has entered the chat and you are probably operating on autopilot, falling back on patterns that once helped you feel safe, connected, in control, or protected.
Good news? You’re not doomed to keep doing this.
When you understand what’s happening underneath the patterns. you can start creating a different response instead of automatically reacting from the same old playbook.
Welcome to Aurora Love Counseling
You don’t have to figure out your how to shift your patterns alone.
Did you know?
A HUGE amount of what we think, feel, and do happens outside of our conscious awareness (they say about 95-97%).
So when you tell yourself, “okay, I’m going to stop overthinking. I’, going to set boundaries. I’m not going to give in this time. I’m going to respond differently…”
… and then somehow find yourself doing the exact same thing again?
Well, there’s a reason why.
Your conscious mind cannot outwill your subconscious. It can know what you want to do while your deeper automatic, subconscious patterns are still running the show.
And often, anxiety is the alarm system that lets you know something underneath needs your attention.
Maybe your brain starts scanning for signs that someone is upset with you. Maybe you can’t stop replaying a conversation. Maybe uncertainty feels unbearable. Maybe you become overwhelmed and shut down or react in a way that is not in alignment with who you want to be.
Therapy focuses on understanding these patterns with clarity and compassion, while building more secure, balanced ways of relating to yourself and others.
Attachment TheoryAttachment theory gives us a way to understand the patterns underneath the patterns- how you learned to navigate closeness, rejection, conflict, safety, and connection, and why those lessons can continue influencing the way you think, feel, and relate today.
Attachment patterns can show up in your romantic relationships, friendships, family, workplace, career endeavors, and even the relationship you have with yourself.
So while we don’t want the anxiety behind all of this to drive the show anymore, we do want to understand what it’s trying to tell us and deal with the core of that.
